Rose McGowan: Left, posing with her RKO movie studio letters. Right, entryway to her former L.A. home.
Rose McGowan has always exuded a touch of Old Hollywood glamour and sensuality, at least in her unique style and fashion sense, and in a recent interview, the actress dishes about her appreciation of all that’s Old Hollywood, and how it’s a shame that many of her Hollywood peers lack this quality.
The star, who sat down with The New York Times for the interview in her L.A. bungalow, told the magazine, “It breaks my heart that so many people in the film industry have no clue who paved the way for them,” adding that “There’s almost a willful ignorance on their part.”
Serving as a kind of metaphor for the love and respect Rose has for the Golden Age of Hollywood, Rose tells the mag about one of her favorite vintage purchases, which just so happened to be an important piece of movie studio memorabilia. Rose scored the legendary RKO studio’s giant, burgundy lacquered letters that currently hang on her wall at home.
RKO, which was known for its film noir movies, as well as a diverse list of classics including “Citizen Kane” and “King Kong”. “RKO was always a bit schizophrenic. They kind of just threw stuff at the wall to see what stuck,” the actress explained. It’s easy to see a similar range of characters when looking at McGowan’s resume. From “Doom Generation’s” Amy Blue, to “Planet Terror’s” Cherry Darling, and all in between (not to mention her role in TV’s “Charmed”), Rose has an undeniable knack for picking roles that are quirky and interesting.
Most recently, McGowan helped remake a classic by starring in Conan The Barbarian as the villain Marique, alongside actors Jason Momoa and Ron Perlman, which was released in the U.S. on August 19.

It’s nice to know that there are still actresses that appreciate old Hollywood, and not just the free clubbing and alcohol and more! Rose is quality!
