Derek Jeter and Minka Kelly have brought an end to their three-year relationship.
Growing up in the NY/NJ area, I’m well aware of how beloved my New York Yankees are. Granted, only baseball groupies like Susan Sarandon in BULL DURHAM are chasing after baseball players these days, but one of the prized items on the very slim market has always remained Derek Jeter. While he’s always managed to keep his private life away from coverage, off the field he’s had his fair share of celebrities along the way with Jordana Brewster and Mariah Carey coming up to bat for the Yankees shortstop. His latest romance has been with FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS star Minka Kelly, but, after three years, it appears the couple have hit into a relationship-ending double play, sending everyone back to their respective locker rooms to prepare for their next games. Too many baseball metaphors? Okay, plain and simple… they broke up.
Just Jared has confirmed that the pair have hit the skids, calling it quits, with sources calling their split “amicable,” as if they were going to reveal that deep down the couple might actually hate each other. “But they remain friends. They still really care for each other.” Ah… the usual break-up talk. “They’re still friends…. They care for each other… They each want the other to remain happy.” Why are these break-ups so diplomatic all the time? Why can’t anyone ever just say, “They didn’t like each other anymore. The moment has passed. There’s nothing to see here. Let’s move on.” Oh well… Minka Kelly will move onto doing other movies no one watches (Did anyone honestly go see THE ROOMMATE?), while Derek Jeter goes back to trying to win World Championships. The balance of the universe has been restored.
