The surprising musical get-together: Coldplay and Rihanna
Rihanna is in high demand these days, and Coldplay knows it!
Having joined forces in the past with artists such as Eminem, Jay-Z, Nicki Manaj and Kanye West, the singer intimidates even some of the most successful bands around today. Coldplay is no exception.
Speaking to The Sun, Coldplay lead singer Chris Martin talks a little about the powerful presence of Rihanna, and how he got the nerve to ask the “Rude Boy” singer if she would contribute to the song “Princess Of China”, off their upcoming album Mylo Xyloto.
“The album is designed as a whole piece. It has boy and girl lead characters and top of our list for the girl part was Rihanna, but it took a while to pluck up the courage to ask her. We did a show in Las Vegas and I met her and said, ‘Do you think there’s any chance?’ I was very Hugh Grant-like and spluttering about it.”
“She has such an amazing voice and it’s so different to mine,” Martin continues, ”When the vocal happened I thought ‘Wow, you sound different’ but I think that’s also because she was singing a different song to what we are used to hearing from her…”
This unusual team is gonna rock, I’m pretty sure of it. Rihanna and Coldplay have such a different musical style and fan base even, but I think it’ll work for them.
Mylo Xyloto is set to release on October 24, 2011, so check it out!
