Momma Jewel and Baby Kase Townes Murray
Country/folk star Jewel and her rodeo champ “King of Cowboys” husband Ty Murray, met their little bundle of joy Kase Townes Murray, on July 11 of this year, and nine weeks later, it’s their fans’ turn to meet the precious little one!
The country-livin’ lovebirds, who have been together 13 years (they married in 2008), gave an exclusive interview along with pictures, to People magazine, to talk about the birth of their son and what they look forward to in the future.
Jewel tells People that early on in her pregnancy, her and Ty had decided they wanted to deliver their first child ‘naturally’. Jewel explains, “We wanted a natural birth and I was committed to that. I studied hypnobirthing.”
The couple remained devoted to the idea, but things began to change as Jewel went past her due date and their doctors found that when she experienced Braxton Hicks contractions, their baby’s heartbeat dropped. Ultimately the duo, along with their doc’s advice, decided a c-section was the safest option.
Reflecting on the experience, the 37-year-old singer declares, “They always say, ‘Make a plan and God laughs,’ right?” She continues, “I feel lucky to be pregnant in the modern age where they could actually tell he wasn’t well during those contractions. We felt thankful that we had good doctors and a good hospital nearby, and that everything was okay. I’m so lucky that we have a healthy baby boy. That’s all I cared about.”
Apparently, mom and dad had some specific people in mind when they named their “mellow and chill” little Kase Townes, Ty’s best bud, and the late Townes Van Zandt, who was one of Jewel’s fave country/folk singer-songwriters.
“We had a name list a long time ago, before we were even married,” Ty says, adding, “I like one syllable names.”
Both Jewel and Ty have remained determined to be ‘hands on’ parents, and have opted to forgo the help of a nanny. As for growing up, Kase will be taught the importance of hard work and the value of a dollar.
Ty, a fifth-generation cowboy himself, with the help of his son, will be running the family’s working ranch (2,400 acres!) in Stephenville, Texas, with cattle and horses included.
Wow, does Kase have his work cut out for him, or what? Ha! I like their parenting style!
