Sinead O’Connor Assures Fans She Is Not Suicidal

Sinead O’Connor has always been known to speak her thoughts, and recently has even spoken up on the social media site Twitter to publicize her desire for a little manly love, but just a couple days ago after a slew of questionable tweets, the outspoken Irish singer has made an effort to assure her fans that she is not serious about taking her own life.

Sinead O’Connor speaks her mind

The 44-year-old singer/songwriter posted a number of ‘red-flag’ tweets September 14, that had some worrying if she was suicidal, reports Rolling Stone.  Included in the updates, O’Connor said, “All this sh*t we’re not supposed to say. Including suicidal feelings, sex, etc. U just get treated like a crazy person. I want to go to heaven SO bad. Have for yrs,” adding, “Can’t manage any more. Badly wish cud die without it ruining my kids lives.”

Although the Irish singer didn’t deny posting the controversial thoughts, she attempted to put any concerns to rest by writing that despite the fact that she believes that “suicide is a sin,” says she also thinks it’s beneficial for people to share those “thoughts” when they are feeling them, saying, “People who express suicidal feelings are least likely to act on them,” she writes. “Anyone who gives u the remotest bit of sh*t for expressing suicidal feelings is a wanker and is to be politely asked to permanently vacate your precious company. Even if its ur mudda-fuggin Mama.”

My impression is that, when dealing with the thoughts and feelings associated with a sensitive subject like suicide, artists in the spotlight need to really think about what they are broadcasting out into the social media world.  The responsibility artists carry is big, but nobody is perfect.

I give O’Connor props for a couple things…One, she continuously speaks her mind without regard to popular opinion, and two, when she does expose her ‘roller-coaster’ thought pattern, she does show deference by including appropriate resources and support.  After her most recent self-destructive updates, O’Connor referenced local “support services in Ireland other than nut-houses and psychiatrists and drugs (DO NOT STOP MEDS BCUZ I SAID THAT.) where people can maybe have a cup of tea…”.

If you or anybody you know is considering suicide, please think twice.  Previously, Spicy has compiled a list of helpful resources listed below.
