Virgin Mobile’s FREEFEST: Festival Review

The Black Keys rock FreeFest

With a line-up including Cee Lo Green, The Black Keys, Deadmau5 and TV on the Radio I knew Virgin Mobile’s FreeFest would be rocking.

With three different stages, multiple side attractions, a plethora of food and drink, bizarre art (look for the rooster and the tree growing through an old pickup) there is something for everyone. It was humid and warm and the bees were aplenty, but nothing was as hot as the artists who took the stage.

The complete lineup for this year’s FreeFest was fabulous. See for yourself:

  • TV on the Radio
  • Deadmau5
  • The Black Keys
  • Cee Lo Green
  • James Murphy
  • Cut Copy
  • Big Sean
  • Okkervil River
  • Empire of the Sun
  • Calvin Harris
  • Ghostland Observatory
  • Grace Potter & the Nocturnals
  • Porter Robinson
  • Two Door Cinema Club
  • Eclectic Method
  • Alberta Cross
  • Bombay Bicycle Club
  • !!!
  • Teddybears
  • Patti Smith

Cee Lo Green pretty much has the hottest backup band ever. Just before he took the stage he served cocktails to fans as a celebrity bartender. How cool is that?

This Deadmau5 fan takes FreeFest seriously! Deadmau5 was AMAZING. With lasers, hypnotic beats and of course, the oversized mouse head, he took control of the crowd who were mesmerized by his performance. The perfect act to close the day-long festival.

From Wikipedia: The name “deadmau5″ originated when Zimmerman found a dead mouse in his computer while he was replacing his video card. He discussed this with chat room users and became known as “that dead mouse guy.” His nickname “Dead Mouse” was too long for the IRC character limit, and was then shortened to deadmau5.

Need a thrill? Ride the Virgin Mobile ferris wheel. The best seats in the house no doubt!

As a part of FreeFest pre-festivities we had the opportunity to meet with Spencer Falls and Sarah Carroll of Virgin Mobile’s “SPARAH” commercials. Pictured: Allie from AllieIsWired.com, Spencer Falls, Sarah Carroll and Spicy. Fans were stoked to see the two of them cruising the grounds, interacting with fans. A couple of kool kats those two are.

If you’re lucky you might even get the chance to meet the man himself, Sir Richard Branson.

Empire of the Sun added a burst of color to the show with their usual flamboyant costumes and makeup.
