Amy Schumer’s Ryan Dunn joke at Comedy Central’s Roast of Charlie Sheen: Bad Taste?

Steve-O gave stand up comedy a whirl at Comedy Central’s roast of Charlie Sheen, which aired last night, but the roast turned to his recently deceased friend, Ryan Dunn, when Amy Schumer cracked an off-color joke about his friend.

Joking about how it should have been Steve-O to die instead of Ryan Dunn, Steve-O’s face went from smiling to stoic as Schumer joked about his dead best friend.

“Steve-O is here, Steve-O, great try. But I truly am, no joke, sorry for the loss of your friend, Ryan Dunn. I know you must have been thinking, ‘it could have been me,’ and we were all thinking, ‘why wasn’t it?’

Ryan Dunn was killed in June after crashing his Porsche into a tree at a high rate of speed. His blood alcohol level was extremely high at .196.

Steve-O, who has been sober for three and a half years, was clearly traumatized after his friend died and didn’t seem very appreciative of Amy Schumer’s joke. Oddly enough, he too, also made a “bad” joke poking fun at the 2003 Station nightclub fire which claimed the lives of 100 people. His joke, which was pulled from Comedy Central’s Roast of Charlie Sheen before it actually aired on Monday, went like this:

“The last time this many nobodies got roasted at least the band Great White was playing.”

Residents of Rhode Island did not take too kindly to Steve’s remarks and Comedy Central ended up pulling the footage, however, they left Amy Schumer’s Ryan Dunn joke intact.

 

 

Is Steve-O a hypocrite? The Station nightclub tragedy took place in 2003, so has enough time passed for a joke to be “OK” rather than one about someone who died only a few months ago? Is there a difference really? Another way to look at it is, what would Ryan Dunn himself think? Dude DID have an awfully warped sense of humor.

One thing is for certain, folks, they don’t call them “roasts” for nothing, and if you can’t take the heat, don’t jump into Comedy Central’s frying pan…

    Don’t stand outside in the rain and then get pissed off because you got wet.

    It’s a roast. Nothing said should be taken personal or even remotely serious. Yes, it was in bad taste, but everything said at a roast is in bad taste. That’s the point.

    It’s to bad we have become this sensitive. We have become “Pussies” of the world.

    Yeah. Which family members of those 2003 fire victims were onstage at the time? Cuz I’m pretty sure that’s what is offending ppl.

    Look, if you need to be judgmental about drunk drivers, and are only using this controversy to pontificate to others, by all means get in line. The free market has spoken and it made Steve-O more successful than Amy Schumacher. It’s perfectly fine to lash out in envy for not finding a way to be more successful than a guy smart enough to intentionally look like a jackass.

    She’s angry that she has no name recognition. But with SO much material on Steve-O, she could have chosen something MUCH more funny. I guess it would have been less cowardly if she was friends with the guy. Instead she exploited the well-publicized death of a childhood friend for a google trends spike, and offended a lot of folks while doing so, all to “make an impact.” The rest, she’s leaving to lapdogs who bark in her defense. If you think no one should have been offended, I say you slow your roll on your Thought Police Patrol.

    Using this event to look down on Steve-O, Dunn, the success of Jackass, *and* the public in general, while trying to turn around and blame everyone else…well, that’s a rather subservient position to take on Amy Schumacher. Down boi, down.

    People are way too sensitive. If they can’t take being offended, they shouldn’t be on a roast. It’s supposed to be satirical.

    Regardless, it is still an extremely fresh wound, that his very good friend died just 3 months ago. Plus, he was just making a weird joke.. didn’t offend anyone personally there. Yes, roasts are made to be not taken seriously, but when I was watching this, I was in utter shock of what this Amy woman said. First off, I had never seen or heard her before in my life, and for someone to joke that it should have been them dying and not that other person who did? I think she crossed the line. I think Comedy Central should have “pulled” that joke too. Sure hope she doesn’t get too much hate mail to where she’s gotta watch her back. Eh, what am I saying, don’t care, she asked for it.

    For the record? I think it was a f***ing sh*tty thing to do. Was it really worth it to get a laugh out of people? I would have gone up and smacked the bitch.

    If Amy’s joke was funny then I think we should be having this conversation. But it was just uncomfortable to listen to, Steve-O being there or not. Shouldn’t have made the cut in my opinion.

    I don’t think Com Central should have pulled the joke about Great White or any other joke.
    People, if you can’t handle the heat… stay the hell out of the kitchen.
    If you burn your hand on a hot pan do you continue to grab the pan?
    No, unless you’re a moron.
    If you’re easily offended by jokes about deceased people, DON’T watch the roasts anymore.
    See how easy that is?
