SNL Top Gun 25th Anniversary DVD

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE parodies the 25th Anniversary DVD of TOP GUN.

SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE hasn’t been consistently funny in about 20 years, but every once in awhile, they still manage to put out some bit of material that’s really hilarious, to give viewers hope that maybe they’ve turned the corner once again and tapped into the sense of humor that’s laid dormant for decades. Of course, that hope quickly turns to disappointment when yet another laughless show is produced and sent our way… but it’s these gems that keeps the power of positive thinking alive and strong within those who still swear SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE is a good show.

This weekend, with Alec Baldwin hosting the show… again… the cast and crew put together a parody of sorts for the 25th Anniversary DVD Edition of TOP GUN… only this time, there was no Tom Cruise to be seen as Maverick, Anthony Edwards dying as Goose or Val Kilmer with ice water in his veins as Iceman. Instead we got the never-before-seen screen tests of quite a few other recognizable names and faces auditioning for the iconic roles.

I don’t know about you… but I’m a bit partial to Al Pacino, who clearly was robbed and should have landed the lead role. That would have been a much different movie, don’t you think?

Here are the two videos from the show, both of which deserve a watch, which is quite rare for anything that comes from SNL:
