Leisha Hailey’s gay PDA was “excessive” according to SWA – apparently her reaction was too.
The L-Word star Leisha Hailey was reportedly asked to leave a Southwest airlines flight after becoming upset that she and her girlfriend were asked to stop with their “excessive” public display of affection.
They say there are three sides to every story – yours, mine, and the truth. Well, Leisha’s side of the story alleges discrimination by Southwest airlines after she and her girlfriend simply “kissed.” Hailey fired off a series of Tweets after the incident:
- I have been discriminated against by
@SouthwestAir. Flt. attendant said that it was a “family” airline and kissing was not ok.
- This is an outrage. I demand a public apology by
@SouthwestAir and a refund. Hate is not a family value. I will never fly this airline.
- We were escorted off the plane for getting upset about the issue.
@SouthwestAir endorses homophobic employees. No one made her accountable.
- Since when is showing affection towards someone you love illegal? I want to know what Southwest Airlines considers as “family”.
Southwest employees and numerous witnesses tell a different story though, saying that the PDA by Leisha Hailey and her gal pal was more than just a simple kiss. A statement from Southwest Airlines reads:
”Initial reports indicate that we received several passenger complaints characterizing the behavior as excessive. Our crew, responsible for the comfort of all Customers on board, approached the passengers based solely on behavior and not gender. The conversation escalated to a level that was better resolved on the ground, as opposed to in flight. We are ready to work directly with the passengers involved to offer our heartfelt apologies for falling short of their expectation.”
It sounds to me like Leisha Hailey and her girlfriend might think that just because they’re gay they have the right to stick their tongues down each other’s throats in public because, well, they’re gay dammit! Ugh. Put your gay card away for when you really need it, Leisha. Blatant abuse of it should result in it being taken away. Pfft!
Oh, and for the record? Southwest did NOT kick Leisha Hailey off the plane for her gay PDA, instead she was booted from the SWA flight because of her reaction to being asked to stop. How is that discrimination exactly?
I don’t care who you are, when I am on a plane I don’t want to deal with someone making out with their boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, hooker, whatever. Your personal space is so limited on a flight, the air you breath has gone through every other set of lungs on the plane and there’s a baby screaming in a sh*tty diaper. So do not have make a make-out frisky session anywhere near me or I will say something too.
Manners, morons, get them please.
Yes, they were asked to leave the plane after it landed because they acted unreasonably when asked to tone down their PDA. Did anyone happen to notice that Southwest’s website says it is the official airline of the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation and is the Preferred Airline for the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City, San Francisco, and Los Angeles?
