Don Lapre “King of Infomercials”dies in jail after suicide
Don Lapre, creator of ‘The Greatest Vitamin in the World’ and it’s infomercial, was discovered dead in his jail cell from an apparent suicide.
Lapre was set to make an appearance in an Arizona court where he faced 41 counts of conspiracy, mail fraud, wire fraud and promotional money laundering for his fraudulent vitamin ‘The Greatest Vitamin in the World.’
Don Lapre never seemed too concerned about his scams or the people who accused him of fraud. He was once quoted as saying: “I really don’t give a rat’s ass about what people think about me.”
Lapre was arrested last June after failing to make a court appearance. A warrant was issued, and in an attempt to hide from authorities he laid low at a 24-hour gym for a couple of days, only leaving to eat. After his eventual arrest, officials discovered Lapre had cut himself in a suicide attempt, leaving deep wounds in both his thigh and groin area that required immediate attention.
The body of Don Lapre was discovered in his jail cell Sunday morning, surrounded by a large quantity of blood. It is believed Lapre had cut himself. The object used in the suicide is unknown.
