“I bet the viewers felt like putting these make-believe guns in their mouths after watching our first four episodes…”
ABC cancels the remake of CHARLIE’S ANGELS after only four weeks on the television airwaves.
In the latest case of “How else did you think this would end?” ABC has announced it is canceling their remake of CHARLIE ANGEL’S, giving the show the boot after only four episodes, thanks to low ratings.
The modern version featuring Annie Ilonzeh, Minka Kelly and Rachael Taylor in the Angels roles previously held by Kate Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Jaclyn Smith never seemed to attract an audience, most likely because everyone I know who chose to sit through even a few minutes of the show couldn’t stop talking about how terrible it was. I don’t know why anyone over at ABC thought this would be a good idea to begin with, as I’m not sure there’s ever been a TV show remake that’s gone on to match the success or expectations of the original. It’s bad enough that remakes are all that fill movie theatres these days, but when it spreads to TV, people just simply tune out. There are too many other channels and too many other options for them to be stuck watching garbage, unlike at the movies, where some of those people just want to get out of the house and will watch anything as a result. (How else do you explain people paying to see Kevin James in ZOOKEEPER?)
This was ABC’s first cancellation of the new season, and more than likely, not its last. NBC has already taken the axe to THE PLAYBOY CLUB (another horrible idea) and FREE AGENTS, while CBS dropped HOW TO BE A GENTLEMAN and The CW said goodbye to H8R.
People should have seen this coming once the ANGELS fell to fifth place in its time slot, behind The CW’s VAMPIRE DIARIES, which i hear is pretty good… but come on… it’s on The CW. Like 15 people watch that pseudo-network, which means about three were tuning into CHARLIE’S ANGELS regularly.
Sayonara, ANGELS… we hardly knew ye… because we have taste.
