Jorge and Alexa Narvaez Sing ‘Rolling in the Deep’

Jorge and Alexa, father and daughter, singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep”

Ok, so I think this popped online months ago but for some reason, even with the asinine amount of time I spend online, I missed it.

It’s the video of a father and daughter singing Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and it couldn’t be any cuter. Jorge and Alexa Narvaez sit together on a couch in front of a video camera as father Jorge strums the guitar and sings the difficult yet moving song (ever tried singing it?) with his precious baby girl. Not only is this video one of the most adorable things I have seen in awhile, it also reminds me of singing with my daddy (R.I.P.) when I was about the same age as little Alexa. We used to sing “Black Water” by the Doobie Brothers (yes, I am dating myself) and to this day when I hear that song I think of my dad and sing along. Alexa will have this precious video for her lifetime. Lucky girl.

It seems that Jorge and Alexa Narvaez have garnered quite a fan base since going viral on YouTube, they even have a Facebook fan page you can “like.” 64,670 likes so far. Jorge and Alexa have also been on Ellen (which I also missed) singing Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros‘ “Home” (video below) and have appeared on Ryan Seacrest‘s radio show. Edward Sharpe actually posted the video on his own website, and within a week the video received more than a million hits. Actor Zach Braff was equally impressed and posted the video on his personal Facebook page.

Despite the father and daughter’s new found fame this year, Jorge says he is still keeping his priorities in line and sometimes has to remind Alexa of the same. “With this whole fame thing, she sometimes thinks she can get away with acting up. But she can’t.” He adds that the family enjoys the attention they’ve received, but isn’t too concerned with long-term success. “Alexa deserves all this because she’s a star, but if nothing happens with it, that’s fine. I mean, who thought any of this would happen?”

Jorge and Alexa reside in La Jolla, CA. Jorge escaped the gangs and thug life choosing instead to raise a family and work with the Reality Changers, an organization that helps to support knowledge-hungry, inner city youth with no financial means of attending college to do just that.  Jorge himself was one of the poorest students himself at UCSD’s marine biology program but thanks to Reality Changers, scholarships and dedication he was the first person in his family to ever attend college.

A touching story and very inspiring. I love seeing people like Jorge succeed. I have an inkling his little girl will be equally successful. The next J. Lo? We’ll just have to wait and see.

With all the Rebecca Blacks in this world making it big, it’s nice to see some real talented recognized. And wow, they could not have picked a much more difficult song to sing. Great song but TOUGH to sing. Congrats to these two. And a little tear shed for Spicy’s dad story. I am 43 and very lucky to have my parents still. My heart bleeds for all who don’t.
