Giuliana Rancic has breast cancer 

Giuliana Rancic has announced that she has breast cancer in the midst of trying to conceive via in-vitro fertilization.

The entertainment television host says the tumor was discovered during a mammogram. Rancic is currently undergoing in-vitro fertilization treatments in an effort to start a family with husband and Apprentice winner Bill Rancic. Treatment for the breast cancer will begin immediately. Giuliana is scheduled for surgery later this week and she’ll have six weeks of follow up radiation treatments. Luckily for her the prognosis is good and she should recover nicely. Still, it’s a terrifying thing to go through I’m sure, but she has an amazing husband by her side to support her through it.

Despite the battle ahead, Giuliana says she will still try to conceive.

Like most women our age, you begin to wonder if 40 is too late to start having mammograms. Doctors have always been adamant with me that 40 is the time to start and insisted I didn’t need one before that. I found a lump a couple years ago (at 38) and I have to say it was numbing. All the possibilities that float through your head until you know for sure it’s not cancer, it’s really scary. Now that I am approaching 40 (in 5 months, not that I am counting down or anything) I will be able to go in for regular mammograms without being told I don’t need them. Personally, I don’t think it’s such a bad idea to get one at 35. I think we all know women in their 30s that have gotten breast cancer, better safe than sorry.
