It’s hard to believe it’s been 17 years since television audiences were blessed with the TV comedy sketch show In Living Color…how time flies.
The ingenious show, which made the Wayans family (Keenen, Damon, Kim, Shawn and Marlon) a household name, paved the way for such stars as Jim Carrey and Jamie Foxx, and featured (now) famous “Fly Girl” dancers like Jennifer Lopez and Dancing With The Stars’ judge Carrie Ann Inaba, was only on for four years. In that short time, many laughs were had and many funny memories were ingrained in my mind.
My favorite sketches were probably Damon Wayans’ sarcastic “Homey D. Clown”, “Men on Film”, with Damon Wayans and David Alan Grier, and “Fire Marshall Bill”, which featured an unknown (at the time) Jim Carrey playing an accident-prone wacko. Good times.
Anyway, according to CNN, Fox announced Friday (via a statement), that a modern version of the show will be airing as “two half-hour specials in the spring of 2012”, though the exact dates are still unknown. In the statement, Fox reflected that In Living Color was an “iconic series” that “put a hip, edgy spin on popular culture and featured characters and sketches that became part of the American vernacular.” So very true!
The original show’s creator, Keenen Ivory Wayans, will be the executive producer of the upcoming newer version of the show, as well as hosting the modern series, which will be casting “fresh, young talent”, says Fox.
So the question is, will this new version live up to the original? I was a diehard fan of the old In Living Color, and am hoping this will live up to the expectations, even if the show is completely revamped. Are you excited about the show’s comeback?
