The Walking Dead Recap: Episode “Cherokee Rose”

The Walking Dead “Cherokee Rose”

This week on The Walking Dead we had a lot of plot line twists but not nearly the casual zombie massacring that we all know and love.

Trust me, I love a good zombie kill as much as the next guy, but that’s not the basis of the show. The Walking Dead gives viewers a feel to what it would be like to live in a flesh-eating monster world. The thought gives me chills of excitement and it’s the blood, gore and good zombie bloodshed that keeps the show exciting.

This week’s episode of The Walking Dead, “Cherokee Rose,” is a precursor for future episodes. Lori’s pregnancy with Shane’s baby, Darryl wandering on his own in search of Sophia, and Glenn and Maggie’s intimate moment in the pharmacy (awkward!) will stir up some conflicts in the safe area.

As for the “swimmer” zombie inside the well, it seemed no option was a good option for getting him out of there without contaminating the drinking water. The “don’t shoot him” technique didn’t work because after deciding to drag him out with a rope, the floater was ripped in half, spilling his zombie “juices” into the water. This will be a definite problem because I don’t think the infected water can be boiled. (Besides, who would want to?)

One thing I love about The Walking Dead is it isn’t afraid to bring children into the conflict. In most zombie movies the kids never get infected. However, we’ve already had Rick shooting the little girl, Carl taking a rifle round to the chest, and the missing girl in a zombie-owned world. Now if only a former character would return as a “walker,” leaving the group with the difficult and emotional conflict of putting them down.

Next week the return of Daryl’s brother Merle, who was left on a rooftop in Atlana, is definitely going to cause havoc amongst the group and I can’t wait to see it. Secretly I’m also hoping for three gory zombie kills. Hey, it’s why we watch the show, right?
