It’s past my bedtime but this just sprang up. Protesters at OCCUPY NYC are facing police in riot gear and a possible raid may be planned.
People are reporting that NYC police are using pepper spray and batons on the OCCUPY NYC protesters. More than 23,000 people around the world are tuning into the live stream to see if anything progresses from here.
Children have been seen in the crowd, and the cameraman says police violence is happening outside of the area and they claim their views have been obstructed.
Protesters on the live stream are asking people watching to report the police as attacking peaceful, unarmed citizens. As I write this (03:20 a.m. EST) the OCCUPY NYC protesters are claiming more police are arriving to the area.
Police have been ordered to clear the protesters so that Zuccotti Park, where the protesters have been residing, may be cleaned, as it is “unsanitary.” All the OCCUPY NYC protesters’ belongings, tents, umbrellas and makeshift shelters are being scooped into massive piles and are being hauled away by sanitation trucks.
A protester filming a live stream claims that people were wrestled to the ground, tear gassed, then arrested. She claims people are being blocked from live streaming any of it. We are hearing that from multiple OCCUYPY NYC sources. Apparently NO media, reporters or cameras are being allowed to witness police action at the OCCUPY NYC protest raid in Zuccotti Park. (Keep in mind there are conflicting reports, others are reporting the tear gas reports are false.)
