The Foo Fighters, Joan Jett, Bob Mould Rock Out

Foo Fighter’s Dave Grohl

Sunday nights NYC’s Madison Square Garden concert attendees were lucky enough to not only watch the Foo Fighters in all their glory, but were blessed with an encore that included musical guests Joan Jett and Bob Mould, lead singer of legendary punk band Husker Du.

According to Billboard.com, the Foo’s somehow dodged the venue’s normal 11 p.m. curfew, and played well past midnight. Their 24-song set, started around 9:30 p.m., after openers Social Distortion and the Joy Formidable rocked the stage. As with every Foo concert I have been to or have heard of, they no doubt gave their concertgoers their all, with Foo classics like “Best of You”, and “Times Like These”, all the way up to their current material from Wasting Light.

Dave Grohl definitely has a sense of humor about himself, and apparently he didn’t hold back with the MSG crowd. During the band’s encore, Grohl supposedly tried to get the crowd to do “The Wave”, and initiated it with his face!? Grohl said, “I’m gonna end up on one of those ‘Behind the Music specials, [saying], ‘It was all good I started making people do the wave with my f*cking face. Then it all fell apart.’” Ha!

Nonetheless, the crowd happily did so.

The Foo’s topped the night off by having Husker Du’s Bob Mould join them in playing “Dear Rosemary”, which was followed by a unique rendition of Tom Petty’s “Breakdown”. Joan Jett soon came out and sang “Bad Reputation”, with the Foo’s backing her up, which ended up being a very cool version of the song.

Now, how do you top that? I’m sure they’ll figure out a way next time.

P.S. The Foo Fighter’s tweeted this early Tuesday morning:

“In case u were wondering, @joanjett is a badass. http://bit.ly/sLRRGX. This was so fun, gonna do it again tonight on David Letterman’s TV show.”

So, tune in or DVR it if you want to see it!
