Another one bites the dust: Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez
It was just a matter of time until we were going to hear the unfortunate (but expected) news that season six’s “Bachelorette” Ali Fedotowsky and the man she chose to be her future husband Roberto Martinez, broke off their engagement.
It seems to be a common theme among the “Bachelor” and “Bachelorette” shows. If I’m not mistaken, the only couples that have come out of those shows and have stayed together are Trista and Ryan Sutter (married in 2003), and Jason and Molly Mesnick (married in 2010). The show appears to offer more of a curse than a promise of love and marriage for the contestants, but I digress…
People reports that the couple’s rep made the official announcement of their separation saying simply, “Ali Fedotowsky and Roberto Martinez have ended their relationship,” adding, “As they go through this difficult time, we ask that you respect the couple’s privacy.”
The couple were engaged in 2010 during the “Bachelorette’s” season finale, but never officially set a wedding date, which, in the last several months, had sparked rumors of a possible breakup looming.
In October, Fedotowsky tried to quell those rumors by saying there were other reasons the two decided to put a hold on their wedding plans. She explained, “We didn’t meet in the most traditional way. We had a very short courtship and we only knew each other nine weeks before we got engaged. We are still figuring out our lives as individuals.” But to assure their fans there was no trouble in paradise, Fedotowsky added, “We’re still engaged, we’re still living together. We just don’t feel the need to walk down the aisle right now.”
Well, although it’s not much of a surprise, it’s still disheartening to see any relationship end (that seemed like at least a happy and healthy one), but hey, at least they found out before tying the knot!
