Johnny Depp Has Religious Group Up In Arms

Johnny Depp: Ringin’ in the season with some saucy tunes

Just in time for the holiday season, Johnny Depp has struck a nerve with Christian groups for lending his voice to a song called “Jesus Stag Night Club” by the British group Babybird.

According to The Huffington Post, the song is about a group of guys who throw a stag party, and get a Jesus lookalike to join them in a night full of all kinds of debauchery, including stolen cars and lots of alcohol guzzling.

Here’s a quick glance at the tongue-in-cheek lyrics:

“Saw a man in the street lying on the floor beaten up/ He had a fish finger sandwich and a yellow M coffee cup/ I bent down drunk and tried to pick him up/ But when I turned around I could see…it was Jesus…/ I can’t remember where I was last night/ Think I was hanging on a church spire/ Tied by my ankles to a weathervane”

These words apparently have angered some people so much that their response to Depp’s involvement with the song have been rather scathing.

The Christian Coalition’s Lee Douglas responded in a statement, “I’m sure he thinks he’s being very funny but he’s simply a disgrace. One day Johnny Depp and his cronies will face the judgment of our Lord and they will burn in hell for this filth.”

Listen to the song yourself by clicking the video below, and let us know what you think. Is this a case of bad taste, bad karma, bad timing, or just a bad critique?
