Were Monica and Matias too close for comfort?

In the era of reality television, it’s no surprise that producers of reality shows tend to edit their particular shows to amp up drama, because that makes for exciting TV, right?

Apparently nobody wants boring, and there has always got to be a villain on the show. Well, for any of you who watched Tuesday night’s “Fear Factor”, you saw the drama come out with a mother and son team competing for the “Fear Factor” record. Watching it, I was pretty grossed out that the mother and son had a creepy ‘too close for comfort’ thing going on, at least the way the footage was angled. It reminded me of the controversy over Angelina Jolie and her brother’s kiss at the 2000 Oscar ceremony. Remember that? Eck.

Well, TMZ is reporting that Monica, who appeared on the show with her son Matias, is calling out the editors of the show, saying that they used a shot of her and her son innocently hugging and made it into something far nastier.

The fact that the show’s host Joe Rogan commented on it, saying, “I hug my mom every time I see her … but then I let go”, didn’t help matters much.

Monica told TMZ, “Last night when the show aired, I was SHOCKED. I am appalled and disgusted at the comments of people on the show about Matias’ and my relationship and how it seems ‘inappropriate’ for a mother and son”, adding, “In no way, shape, or form am I inappropriate with my son … I’m broken hearted. Joe Rogan … shame on YOU. You are a father. How dare you talk about my son that way?”??

It doesn’t look like Monica is seeking legal action, which I’m sure if she did, it wouldn’t go anywhere. Pretty sure people sign off their life (in contracts) when they go to appear on any reality show. These shows have legal teams up the you know what.

Either way, I think it’s just the nature of the beast. It’s a risk you take signing onto these types of shows.

What are your thoughts on this? Would you watch reality television if it was 100% pure, with nothing edited or staged?
