Lady Gaga and Jennifer O’Neill
O’Neill, 41, was on a $75,000 salary but worked grueling hours, from the moment she woke up to the time she slept, if she even had that luxury. O’Neill claims Lady Gaga’s Mermaid Touring Company owes her $380,000 for the overtime. In court documents Jennifer O’Neill says Gaga demanded a towel after every shower, expected her to be a “personal alarm clock” as well as the 24/7 handler of all Gaga’s finances, her food, her clothing and her schedule. O’Neill estimates she is owed for 7,168 hours of work.
Lady Gaga’s team is saying the lawsuit is “without merit,” but another former assistant, Angela Clemny, who worked for the star in 2009, had similar complaints about her boss. She was required to sleep with and sometimes shower with Gaga, who allegedly never wanted to be alone.
Who’s telling the truth? Sounds to me like Gaga may be turning into a nightmare diva, as most “Jenny from the Blocks” end up doing. They get famous by connecting with fans and seeming “real” but then get caught up in all the Hollywood crap and treat everyone around them like garbage. Paying someone $75,000 to do everything but wipe your ass while not allowing them to have a life of their own is hardly going to be worth it, no matter who the boss is. BUT, Jennifer did agree to the salary and probably knew she would be touring with and catering to Gaga’s every need. That is what she signed up for. She didn’t sign up for an hourly job, she knew she was to be paid a salary and all her traveling needs, food, lodging, etc. would be covered. Sounds like Jennifer decided it wasn’t worth it. It probably wasn’t worth it, but what did Gaga actually do wrong here?
Good luck with that lawsuit, Jennifer. As much as you may have worked your tush off, you’ll never see that $380,000.
