Billy Corgan Will Be Opening a Tea House in Chicago

Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan is branching out from music to get into the coffee/tea house scene.

According to Rolling Stone, the 44-year-old musician will soon be launching a 1930s Chinese-style teahouse in his hometown, Chicago’s Highland Park. The as-of-now unnamed establishment is scheduled to open in March or April 2012, and will feature a menu of exotic teas, vegan sweets, and coffee.

Corgan spoke to Eater.com about the upcoming venture. “It has a whimsical feel to it… It’ll feel like you’re stepping back in time in terms of space, but what we put into the space will change,” says Corgan. He adds, “It’s a little bit of a salon vibe, not modern at all. Very old school,” he said. “What we’re going for is that Chinese-French style.”

The teahouse will be able to hold around 30 people, and Corgan says he plans on making it a gathering place where people can enjoy good tea, treats and company. He’s even envisioning having open mic nights and live music, as well as inviting people to come speak about different subjects, from art and film to archeology.

Sounds pretty cool!
