WALBURGERS: Burger Joint Owned by Wahlberg Brothers

Wahlberg brothers

Looks like I need to pack my bags and travel 3,000 for a burger. But not just any burger, a WALBURGER.

As a longtime celebrity gossip blogger and pop culture junkie I have absolutely no idea how this story got past me, but the Wahlberg brothers, Mark, Donny and their brother Paul, have their own upscale burger restaurant and bar in Boston. Big deal, you may be thinking, tons of celebrities have restaurants and usually they’re nothing special. But Wahlburgers has AMAZING burgers from what I hear and locals are eating them up like crazy.

Wahlburgers is the dream of Mark and Donnie Wahlberg‘s brother, Chef Paul Wahlberg. Paul also owns Alma Nove, an upscale (yet affordable) Italian/Mediterranean restaurant in Hingham, located about 30 minutes south of Boston. Wahlburgers is right across the street at 19 Shipyard Drive.

Wahlburgers has seating for 80 customers with 40 more available outdoors in the summer months. It’s packed, even during off-peak hours. The decor is retro diner inspired and has tons of movie memorabilia decorating the walls and good music on a great sound system is always heard in the background, unless of course, there is a Boston team playing that night.

This morning on Seattle’s KISW 99.9FM I caught an interview with Mark Wahlberg where he mentioned Wahlburgers. He sold me on traveling to Boston simply to try one of these burgers. (Listen to KISW’s interview here.)

Mark says he would never attach his name to anything, but that his brother’s burgers are so amazing he never even thought twice about it. He mentioned the “Thanksgiving Burger,” which needs no explanation, it’s a turkey burger with everything your Thanksgiving dinner plate would have on it.  Must. Have. There’s the “Smahl Burger,” obviously the smaller of the burgers but also named after what the brothers used to call Paul when they were kids. Their signature burger, “Our Burger,” is your basic burger topped with “government cheese” and “Wahl Sauce.” (Should I ask what’s in the sauce?) If you’re not a burger lover at all, there’s also “The Stray Dog,” a fancy hotdog with brown mustard, home made salsa and siracha sauce. Check out the complete menu here.

It sounds like the only thing that could make this place better is if they piped “Good Vibrations” into the joint once an hour and the servers danced for the entire song. 10% off your tab if you join in. Heh. Take note, boys.

See you in Boston.
