Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, M. Shawn Crahan, and their Living Breathing Films logo
The hard rock members of Slipknot want to scare the pants off of you, because that is what turns them on…sort of.
The band, who has been around for over 17 years, is usually recognized for their catchy, heavy metal tracks and their creepy clownish masks and matching jumpsuits, but soon its member will be known for freaking you out by way of cinema.
Co-founder and percussionist M. Shawn Crahan (aka ‘Clown’), and frontman Corey Taylor are reportedly traveling to the Sundance Film Festival later this week to show the movie industry and public what their new film production company, Living Breathing Films, is all about.
Talking with Rolling Stone, Crahan and Taylor explain that their forthcoming movies will reflect the band’s well-known style and image.
“Our movies are going to be psychological. They’re going to affect you. When The Exorcist came out people got up and left after 15 minutes and that turns us on,” Crahan admits. “If I haven’t got someone to leave in five minutes for at least one of my films then I’m not doing my job.”
Crahan says that although they’re fans of the horror genre (after mentioning The Exorcist and citing Halloween as one of his faves), they actually love all types of movies.
He says, “I just watched Good Will Hunting a week ago and I actually cried three times in the movie. That’s what Robin Williams can do to me – he can make me laugh as a comedian, but as an actor I completely believe him.”
To start out, Crahan says he will be scoring the films, and then will branch out to directing, while Taylor will bring his writing and acting skills to the presentation.
And once they get their feet wet, Taylor says they would like to get to work with some of the best in the industry. From Halloween’s John Carpenter to Quentin Tarantino to fellow musician-turned-director Rob Zombie, which Taylor declares would be “sick” to work with, they seem to have their goals set high.
As for the future of the band, fans need not fret, because Taylor promises that their movie making won’t interfere with Slipknot’s touring schedule.
I’m excited to see what these guys can share with the film industry. You can’t beat the adrenaline rush you get when you watch a weird, spooky movie. As they say they “live” and “breathe” their art, so let’s see it!
