Zakk Wylde and Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy’s former guitarist, and frontman to the band Black Label Society, was joined by several musical colleagues and comedians, including Anthrax’s Scott Ian, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, and Jim Breuer, just to name a few.
The special event, with a portion of all proceeds going to the MusiCares charity, was hosted by Sharon Osbourne, who along with the others in attendance, gave a no-holds-barred roasting that Wylde took like a man. He was willing to take it, but gave it back just the same.
Kicking off the Roast, Osbourne declared, “This is a celebrity roast but who forgot to put the word ‘celebrity’ in quotes?”
Some other fun burns thrown out to a prepared Wylde included Ian stating that “Zakk’s guitar playing is way less diatonic and way more gin and tonic”, and Ozzy’s current guitarist, Gus G. (who replaced Wylde), saying, “Zakk, I grew up learning all of your riffs and solos. Then I learned how to play real music.”
Having a little light-hearted verbal revenge of his own, Wylde shot back with “There’s a lot of faces up here, and Sharon’s is probably the newest. I’m kidding, Mom. You don’t look a day over artificial,” while getting back at Ian by saying, “Scott’s been playing lots of poker lately, and like Anthrax, they can both barely pull a full house.”
Guitar World is planning to make their Roast an annual event, so I wonder who will be roasted in 2013? When Sharon was asked the question, she cleverly answered, “I think Axl Rose, and I’m the woman to f**k him.”
Ha! Now that would be pretty damn funny (if not a bit disturbing) to watch.
