Body language is everything — Aretha Franklin and Willie Wilkerson at the BET Honors Pre-Honors dinner in Washington, DC, on January 13, 2012
It’s been just three weeks since it was announced that Aretha Franklin would make it down the aisle for the third time, but after having second thoughts, her and fiancé William “Willie” Wilkerson have called off the wedding.
The “Respect” singer posted a statement on her Facebook page Monday which said, “Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time. We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”
The 69-year-old Queen of Soul announced the engagement on January 2, saying that her and Wilkerson were planning on tying the knot sometime this summer. With her recent weight loss of 85 pounds, Franklin was reportedly ecstatic that she was going to be fitted for a designer wedding dress made by either Vera Wang, Valentino, or Donna Karen.
It remains to be seen if Franklin and Wilkerson have called off their relationship as a whole, but as I always say, better they figure it out before that fateful walk down the aisle!

I am glad to hear that Aretha Franklin has given serious thought to marrying a man that she does not know. Sometimes, women, including me make the wrong descision. Relationships are complecated and needs time to figure out if it is the right relationship for both parties. Women look at the emotional aspect and do not take into consideration the facts and are they really compatible? Men are selfish and women need more time to figure out how selfish is the man? I am an Aretha Franklin fan. It is hard to have your business in the Media, so I really hope she makes the right choice. Women need to look at what is right for us.
