Joel and Benji Madden NYE 2012
Good Charlotte fans take heed, because Joel and Benji Madden are taking a (temporary) break from recording under their usual band name, and taking on a new one, with plans to release an album this summer.
Simply titled Madden Brothers, half of the project’s duo, Joel, spoke about it to Rolling Stone saying, “There’s an honesty to the name that allows us to say things and do things and experiment with things.”
With the record’s production team including Pharrell (Williams), who has worked with stars like Britney Spears, Madonna, and Jennifer Lopez, along with the Butthole Surfers’ Paul Leary, you can bet the album is going to take on a different sound than what we’ve heard from the boys the past 16 years.
Benji explains, “It is a completely different project – it sounds nothing like Good Charlotte other than that you’ll recognize our voices. But there are a lot of acoustic guitars and we’re working with a whole different set of people. I’m definitely excited for people to hear [the new music]. It’s some of my favorite songs we’ve written so far.”
Though not a hardcore fan of Good Charlotte, I have been known to enjoy a few of their songs. They have a knack for making a catchy pop-punk riff here and there, but it will be nice to see what this new collaboration has to offer.
