Madonna made a special appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno last night to promote her new album, MDNA.

Madonna explained the meaning behind her new album name… Does it stand for Madonna? Madonna’s DNA? MDMA? It’s a combo, apparently.

Jays asks Madonna if her children listen to her music and do they criticize it, and she says yes. Jay asks, “Are they tactful?” “Nope!” she responds with a grin.

Madonna talked about her upcoming Super Bowl performance as well, (sorry Elton, but I doubt she’ll be lip-synching)  saying, “It is the most nerve racking thing I have ever done. I have 8-minutes to set up the stage, and 7 to take it down.” I imagine Madge singlehandedly setting up the stage with her virile arms….not.

Jay asks if there are a list of rules she must obey by, and she jokes, “For sure no nipples!” The audience roars. “I don’t like to repeat myself,” she coos, hinting that she was showing her nipples long before the Super Bowl’s “Nipplegate” ever went down. (Erotica, The Sex Book, you name it.) So take THAT, Janet.

The best part of the interview was when Madonna spoke of her 1984 “Like a Virgin” performance at the MTV Music Awards and explained how it actually all went down. She says the rolling-around-the-floor at the end was NOT planned, that she had lost her shoe and writhing around on the floor was a way to retrieve it.

Nice story, Madge, and I love that you’re using your creative flair to rewrite history, but I don’t recall any loss of the white stiletto! So I had to investigate, and I was right. Madonna was fibbing about losing the shoe.

Even though Madonna can come off as pretentious and sometimes narcissistic, I always, always, always LOVE interviews with her. She is never, ever boring and she’s quite witty. She keeps old Jay Leno on his toes. (Speaking of, is he ever going to retire? He should have quit while he was ahead. I can’t stand to watch him anymore!) So whatcha think? Is she going to kill it on Sunday? Sounds like she is pretty nervous about not having a sound check and the extremely short set-up time doesn’t exactly comfort her either. As long as her sound is ok, she’ll be ok.
