Amy Winehouse’s Coroner Resigns

Would reopening the Amy Winehouse case give us a different conclusion?

The coroner who oversaw the investigation into Amy Winehouse’s cause of death has resigned, which may lead to the case being reopened.

Suzanne Greenaway, who was the Assistant Deputy Coroner assigned to the case, ruled in October, that Winehouse (who was found dead on July 23, 2011), died of accidental alcohol poisoning.

Rolling Stone reports that Greenaway actually resigned last November once officials found out she had not been a registered lawyer in the UK for the required five years, though it wasn’t made public until now.

Interestingly enough, Greenaway had been appointed to her post by her husband Andrew Reid, who also serves as a coroner in London. In a statement Wednesday, Reid claims he believed that his wife’s time as a registered lawyer in her native Australia gave her the qualifications to perform in the UK.

Reid didn’t technically break any laws and officials are saying they believe he made the error “in good faith”. He has apparently offered to perform any of his wife’s inquests again if Winehouse’s family requests it, but so far they have not.

Something about this Reid character sounds fishy, but I don’t think the results will be much different if Amy’s family decides to reopen the case. Any conspiracy theories out there? Let’s hear them!
