Macy Gray Makes Bold Move With ‘Covered’

Macy Gray shows her range on her new album

If for some random reason I was ever asked to write out a list of artists that I’d bet money Macy Gray would NEVER cover, I’d wind up with the track listing to her upcoming album Covered.

The record, which will be released in the U.S. on March 27th, is a compilation of covers sung by the soul singer that I predict will either be a huge success, or a giant failure.

Some of the artists and bands Gray covers include Metallica, My Chemical Romance, Radiohead, and Kanye West. She even attempts Eurythmics’ “Here Comes The Rain Again”, and gives Arcade Fire and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a shot. Nicole Scherzinger and The Wire star Idris Elba are also said to have small cameos on it.

It takes some pretty big musical marbles (if ya know what I mean) and confidence to try to pull this off, so hats off to her. I am hoping we’ll be blown away. I can’t say I’m a mega-fan of Gray’s right now, but after hearing the finished product, I’m hoping I’ll be one.

Covered will be the “I Try” singer’s sixth studio album, following 2010’s The Sellout.

Check out the full track listing for Covered after the cut!
