Simon Cowell Disses “The Voice”

Simon credits Idol with discovering artists, not showcasing already established ones

A rivalry between sing-off competition reality shows American Idol and The Voice is heating up and Simon Cowell is jumping onboard.

In a recent interview Simon spoke his mind about The Voice, and its judges, Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine. He belittled the show, and its celebrity line up, by boasting about American Idol and how many contestants it has turned into stars.

“I would ask how many records have they made, how many artists have they discovered? That’s where we have to be different on the judging panel. It’s very important that you have people on the panel that have actually signed and made artists successful all over the world, not just have made hit records yourself.”

He does have a point, sorta, for an old, washed-up show. Nobody cares what you did yesterday, Simon. I could care less that he’s discovered talent on the show. I want a show that’s entertaining and fresh, not stale and repetitive. That’s why I’ll be watching The Voice this season and not American Idol. I did tune into the premiere Idol episode, but that was enough for me. I honestly don’t even think I made it all the way though. I caught The Voice after the Super Bowl last week, and after having not seen much of it in the past, I have to say, it is loads better than American Idol.

I asked for some of your opinions on Twitter and here is what you had to say:

“Neither. I think people are starting to push back against reality tv.” - @windycityamar

“The Voice because the talent is better and they get to choose their mentor.” – @MyRealityGuide

“AI. I hate the team setup on the voice…how the final 4 is one from each team, not just the 4 best artists.” – @kristanxmarie

To be fair, they have had some established artists on American Idol in the past too. He should think about that fact before he opens his mouth (same with Randy Jackson who hated last week). other than that, i agree with Adam Levine’s response last Friday on Ellen.
