Whitney Houston’s ‘Sparkle’ Set For August Release

Whitney Houston will ‘Sparkle’ in new movie, due out in August

It looks like we’ll get to see Whitney Houston’s final film performance with Sparkle, which is set to hit theaters on August 17th of this year.

The movie, a musical drama inspired by The Supremes, is a remake of the 1976 original. It portrays Houston as a mother of three sisters in a musical group who struggle with their new-found fame and the issues that can come with it, including drug use. The film is supposed to be set in the 1960s during the Motown era, and also stars Jordin Sparks and Cee Lo Green, among others.

Houston not only appears in the movie, but also recorded several songs for the soundtrack, before her untimely death. I can tell that this movie is going to be big…not only because of the hype surrounding Houston’s tragic passing, but because the woman, the legend, was not only an amazing singer, but also a great actress (my favorite of hers to this day is The Bodyguard). What she touched, she could turn into gold, and I don’t see this one being any different.
