Liv Tyler Sings INXS For Givenchy

Why Liv Tyler held back that singing voice for 34 years is beyond me, but the actress, and now singer, belted out an INXS tune for her latest Givenchy ad.

Tyler, whose famous dad is Aerosmith’s frontmans and one of the judges on American Idol, Steven Tyler, shows us what she’s got when singing INXS’ “Need You Tonight” for their Very Irrésistible Givenchy Electric Rose fragrance commercial.

Liv says that when she was approached with the idea of singing for the ad, she was eager to take on the task. “I literally jumped on my bed and screamed like a little girl,” she says, adding, “It was such an amazing opportunity to try it out.”

She spoke to PEOPLE about her lifelong attraction to singing. She says, “My whole life, since I was a little girl, all I ever thought I would do is be a singer. My mom and stepdad, my dad are all musicians and singers, and somehow I started modeling and acting instead.”

Liv says it took her four or five days of recording to find her voice with the song, and she did it all in overalls at her producer’s house in Los Angeles. “It was totally not about the visual performance”, she says jokingly.

On the other hand, the sexy clip was shot in Paris, and as you can tell from the sultry video, girlfriend is NOT in overalls, but instead seductively serenading the viewer while dancing around in a black sweater and thigh-high stockings, surrounded by hot men.

Regarding the video, she says, “It was incredibly challenging to perform like that. I couldn’t hide behind a character, but I kept thinking about Madonna, Debbie Harry, the amazing performers I grew up watching. We shot til 4 a.m., and I was covered in bruises by the end, but it was really fun.”
