Brian May Talks Adam Lambert

Adam Lambert and QUEEN team up

When we reported earlier this month that American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert was chosen to be the new voice and frontman of the legendary rock band Queen, many of you voiced your opinions on the pick.

Some were for it and some against, and now guitarist Brian May has spoken out about the band’s decision.

QUEEN just announced that they will be headlining this summer’s Sonisphere festival with Lambert, alongside an impressive bill that includes Kiss, Faith No More, Incubus, The Darkness, Evanescence, and Refused.

May talked a bit about the band’s upcoming performance at the UK music fest and how he thinks fans will react. He said, “Judging by my incoming mail, this decision will make a lot of people very happy. It’s a worthy challenge for us, and I’m sure Adam would meet with Freddie’s approval! And what better place to revisit, and walk those emotional paths than Knebworth? It will be a rush.”

As for Adam Lambert, he has said that his intentions are not to try and replace the late and great Freddie Mercury, but rather just pay his respects to his memory by singing the best he can.

He said, “I’m completely in awe of the Queen phenomenon. The thought of sharing the stage for a full set is so beautifully surreal. I’m honored to be able to pay my respects to Freddie’s memory. He’s a personal hero of mine and I am deeply grateful for the chance to sing such powerful music for fans of this legendary band. I know the evening will be a huge milestone for me, and with the support of Brian, Roger and the rest of the band, I know magic will be on display.”

I truly dig the idea of Glambert fronting this band. As a fan of his since watching season 8 of American Idol, I think he has the voice to pull it off. Yeah, he has some attitude but I think his confidence and flair will be a necessity to making these live performances great.

Just for fun, the following clip was what really made me fall in love with Lambert. His rendition of Tears For Fears’ “Mad World” on American Idol was killer. If you haven’t seen it, check it out below.

(BTW, for some reason the ‘cleaner’ version of the song did not allow for video embedding, so this one is a bit unclear.)

In Adam’s latest radio interview, he talked about a couple of really great song opportunities coming in at that last minute after the cutoff, and he sounded really excited about them. While I’m dying to hear the new music, I’m happy to wait until he thinks it’s ready!

What attitude are you referring to Erin…Adam is probably the most humble celeb I have ever seen…Constantly doing shout outs to other stars…always critical of himself…helping raise over one million dollars for charity…If you are a fan of Adam’s then you should know this is true. I have never heard Adam boast about himself…he is always very polite..Geez…get your facts right. And I can not think of a better colaboration ….concert will be awesome…thanks to this…wish I could go…but no funds.
