Jennifer Aniston’s ‘Wanderlust’ Movie Bombs

Jennifer Aniston in Wanderlust

With all of the hype surrounding Jennifer Aniston’s new movie Wanderlust, you would’ve thought the opening weekend would come out with some good numbers, but that’s just not the case.

Even with all of the chatter about the film’s leading roles from Hollywood’s new ‘it’ couple, Aniston and beau Justin Theroux, expected nude scenes, or ‘pulled’ nude scenes, or talk about how this role was Aniston’s ‘breaking away from the rom-com genre’, the movie still headed south like so many of the actress’s movies lately. It came in at the box office this weekend at a sad $6.6M. To me, $6 million dollars sounds like a lot, but when it comes to an expected Hollywood hit, with what some would consider ‘A-list’ stars, along with a $35M budget, that number is lacking.

For as much as Jennifer Aniston is worth (somewhere around an estimated $150M), and how much she pulls in for each film nowadays, you’d expect a little more from her. According to US Weekly, Aniston hasn’t had a No. 1 box office debut since her 2009 film He’s Just Not That Into You. I can’t imagine that this sort of thing will be allowed to continue. I guess it’s all really up to what the audience wants.
