Dita Von Teese and her models at the Von Follies fashion show
The burlesque queen debuted her collection of feminine unmentionables in Melbourne, Australia on March 10, and displayed her signature style and elegance in the long-awaited undergarment line. In true retro fashion, Dita brought out beautiful, pin-up worthy women of all shapes and sizes (not your usual stick-thin model-types), and even jump-started the show by prancing down the aisle wearing some fancy (most likely custom-made crystal-clad Louboutins). From front to back, (literally) Dita kept viewers in awe.
Regarding the show, Dita told the Herald Sun in Melbourne, “We gave a lot of models the axe for being too skinny – we probably turned away a dozen,” adding, “It’s important to me [that] we show curvaceous women and fuller-figured girls… Lingerie looks terrific on girls with shape.”
Other than the shape guidelines, Dita had one more rule she was not going to budge on. Absolutely under no circumstances were any one of the models allowed to alter their skin color by use of a spray tan!
She tweeted, “Disaster averted! Just issued out a ‘no spray tan’ alert to our models. Apparently, spray tan is the usual prep for lingerie shows. Yikes!”
She might seem like a diva to some, but I applaud her for sticking to her guns in how she wants her models to look. It is her fashion line after all, and I think overall, she’s an inspiration to women. She truly celebrates the beauty of every woman. I’m excited to see the line here in the states soon!
