Axl Rose says ‘No thank you’ to the Hall Of Fame

Despite some old school Guns N’ Roses fans’ wishes, there will be no reunion with the band’s members at this weekend’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.

Frontman Axl Rose has said he will not attend and is actually declining his induction into the museum.

In a letter to the hall, Axl stated, “I respectfully decline my induction as a member of Guns N’ Roses to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I strongly request that I not be inducted in absentia and please know that no one is authorized nor may anyone be permitted to accept any induction for me or speak on my behalf. Neither former members, label representatives nor the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should imply whether directly, indirectly or by omission that I am included in any purported induction of ‘Guns N’ Roses.’” 

He goes on to say the ceremony has put him in a tough position. He said, “I certainly don’t intend to disappoint anyone, especially the fans, with this decision. Since the announcement of the nomination we’ve actively sought out a solution to what, with all things considered, appears to be a no win, at least for me, ‘damned if I do, damned if I don’t’ scenario all the way around.”

Recently the band’s former members including Slash, Matt Sorum, Dizzy Reed, Duff McKagan and Steven Adler have all said that they were planning to attend the event, although there’s been no word from Izzy Stradlin yet.

Axl finishes the letter saying, “Time to move on. People get divorced. Life doesn’t owe you your own personal happy ending especially at another’s, or in this case several others’, expense.”

It’s a bummer we’re not going to see Axl and the gang get inducted into the HOF, but it’s certainly not surprising, is it? Given the band’s past relations and struggles between them (remember Axl and Slash haven’t shared a stage since 1993), I wasn’t really expecting them to all show up and be cordial with one another, although it would’ve been nice.

UPDATE: Apparently the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame could care less what Axl wants. They are going to induct him anyway. A spokesperson for the museum told E! News, “We are sorry Axl will not be able to accept his induction in person. We are looking forward to still inducting Guns N’ Roses this weekend and will proceed forward with our original plan whether Axl is present or not.”
