Marilyn Manson, Johnny Depp: ‘You’re So Vain’

Johnny Depp and Marilyn Manson: Beauty and The Beast?

Two weeks ago Johnny Depp had some fun joining his buddy Marilyn Manson onstage at Revolver’s Golden Gods Awards ceremony, and now the unlikely duo have unleashed a wicked version of Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” for your listening pleasure.

If you thought the Depp and Manson collaboration was a little odd (who didn’t?), you’re not alone. Although I thought it was indeed a bit quirky, it was awesome nonetheless.

Well, FUSE sat down with Manson recently and asked him about the interesting get together and according to him, the match-up was not so out of the ordinary.

Manson explains, “I’ve known Johnny [Depp] for a long time. I was actually an extra on 21 Jump Street when I was 19. I was sent to do an interview with him, but I didn’t get the interview [Manson used to be a journalist]. The article was supposed to be about what it was like to be an extra on 21 Jump Street. So we’ve known each other for years. I’ve spent a lot of time with him, but we’ve never worked on music together before. He called me up a couple months ago and said, ‘Hey, do you wanna come over and work on something?’”

Manson adds, “We started playing blues songs and then I said, ‘My record’s done, but we should really do a song to add to the end of it, as if it were a movie.’  It’s like the movie’s over and this is playing at the end title credits. So it’s sort of the song that adds to it.”

Manson spoke to MTV News about his and Depp’s contributions to the song. He said, “He played drums and lead guitar, and I played guitar and sang.”

You can check out Manson and Depp’s rendition of the “You’re So Vain” after the cut!

This is awesome – Can absolutely see this as the trailer music in a Matthew McConaughey film.
