George Harrison Gretsch Duo Jet Guitar Giveaway

George Harrison and his Gretsch in 1962

Martin Scorcese’s George Harrison documentary called Living in the Material World comes out on DVD today, May 1st and to celebrate the event Rolling Stone magazine is giving away a guitar modeled after Harrison’s original 1957 Gretsch Duo Jet.

Harrison purchased the famous guitar secondhand back in the early 60s, and made it famous by recording Please Please Me with it, along with playing it during The Beatles’ legendary Cavern Club appearances. The instrument also was featured on the cover of his 1987 solo album Cloud Nine.

According to Rolling Stone, the guitar replica includes “distinctive appointments and modifications found on Harrison’s original: a lightweight mid-Fifties-style chambered body, all-black color scheme, maple and mahogany detailing, and an offset strap button on lower bout. Other features include three-ply body binding (white-black-white), vintage-style ‘rocking bar’ bridge with rosewood base, silver plexi pickguard, chrome-plated hardware, Harrison’s signature on the truss rod cover and a premium tweed case.”

This guitar will go to one lucky winner, and hopefully it’s you! The contest ends on May 6, 2012.
