André 3000 Will Portray Jimi Hendrix In Biopic

In just a few weeks, hip-hop star and singer of Outkast, André 3000, will begin shooting the Jimi Hendrix biopic in which he stars as the late singer and guitar-playing legend.

According to IFTN (via Screen Rant), the John Ridley (Three Kings, U-Turn) directed movie, which will be called All Is By My Side, will start filming in three weeks, although pre-production is said to have already begun. Shooting for the flick will take place in Dublin and Wicklow County, in Ireland, and is expected to last around six weeks.

It’s been reported that the film will focus on the years 1966 and 1967, when Hendrix was first discovered at a club in New York City by Keith Richard’s (who was playing for the Rolling Stones) girlfriend at the time, Linda Keith. Within just four short years, Hendrix became a rock and roll sensation, quickly gained international success and praise, and at the young age of 27, died a horrible death involving drugs.

André (real last name is Benjamin) has a pretty impressive filmography thus far. According to Wikipedia, he has 12 films under his belt and has appeared in several television shows, including The Shield.

Playing someone as iconic as Hendrix will be no small feat, that’s for sure, but I know one thing for sure… André has the looks factor down, without much work. I just realized how much he looks like Jimi. The resemblance is uncanny! I’m looking forward to this one!
