This week’s Saturday Night Live was a bittersweet experience for me, as I’m sure it was for many of you.
The fact that rock legend Mick Jagger hosted, as well as performed with none other than the Foo Fighters, Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck, and The Strokes’ Nikolai Fraiture, made the show’s season finale a special one (also a cameo by Jon Hamm, among others), but what made the show even more unforgettable was the realization that this was Kristen Wiig’s last time being on the comedy skit show as a full-time cast member.
That in itself is a sad truth we’ll all have to get used to. Personally, she was my favorite comedian on the show in the last several years, but no worries, she has a lot on her talented plate, so I have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot of her in the near future.
Hollywood.com’s Paul Dergarabedian puts it well saying of the star, “She reminds me of Will Ferrell with her fearlessness and almost complete lack of vanity when it comes to making comedy. She’s not afraid to get her hands dirty.” He adds that Wiig “also has a great slapstick to her.”
According to USATODAY.com, Wiig has half-dozen films in the works, scheduled through 2014, including the comedy Imogene that will come out later this year. (You can see the complete list HERE.)
Dergarabedian continues his praise of the funny actress by saying, “She has this unique Lucille Ball-type accessibility and humor that makes her particularly appealing to women. That has already worked wonders for her on the big screen, as Bridesmaids so clearly demonstrated. She could be the new voice of comedy in film, both as a writer and performer, given her seemingly universal appeal.”
He couldn’t have said it better. Wiig is hilarious, witty, and not afraid to be self-deprecating. Plus, she’s gorgeous to boot!
