Once we all heard Britney Spears was officially on board to host the competition TV show X Factor, many of us had mixed emotions.
Speaking for myself, I was excited because I think we can all agree she brings that superstar quality, and as a performer, she’s pretty damn talented. She also has a drama filled past and I wondered if there would be any big issues on the show.
Anyway, having just started her first week (last week) in Austin, Texas, there were some stories floating around that Spears had abruptly left the judge’s table, more than once, while contestants were performing. According to RadarOnline.com, the reason is simply that Spears suffers from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or A.D.H.D., and just needs to take breaks every so often.
Apparently Brit Brit cannot take what medicine is usually prescribed because it interferes with other meds she’s on at the time. This is what a source close to the singer said:
“Britney was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in her teens and used to take medication for it. The medication helped her deal with it, however, she can’t take it now because it interferes with the other medications she takes for her mental health issues. Britney’s current team of doctors strictly prohibit her from taking Adderall or Ritalin, which are commonly given to people with ADHD.”
The source goes on to say, “Simon was made fully aware of Britney’s medical history before the contract was signed, so this certainly isn’t a big surprise that she needs to take breaks during the audition process. Look, Britney basically has the attention span of a 10-year-old at times. It’s not alarming to Simon at all and he is fully supportive of Britney doing whatever she needs to do during filming.”
The insider adds, “Britney’s medical team works with her to deal with her disorder without medication and daily vigorous exercise is what often works best for Britney. Her nutrition is closely monitored and so is her caffeine intake, because that can also enhance Britney’s inability to focus. Simon knew what he was dealing with before he ever signed her to join the show and it’s not shocking to him. Of course, it’s rather disconcerting for people that see her do it for the first time but it’s truly nothing to be alarmed at. In fact, Simon would have been surprised if she hadn’t taken breaks during judging last week, this means she is involved and engaged in the process.”
As a person diagnosed with A.D.H.D. myself, I feel for her. Just like with anything, people have different degrees of the ‘disorder’, some more than others, but if you’ve got it, you know how it can interfere with work as well as your personal life. It doesn’t ever really go away, even with medication. You just deal with it day by day. I’m glad Britney has doctors working with her to give her the best treatment she can get, tailored to her personal needs. I’m rootin’ for this girl!
