After showing up super late to one of their concerts last week, Guns N’ Roses ‘one-ups’ themselves by putting a ban on U.K. concertgoers wearing any t-shirts with ex-band mate Slash on them.
During a gig at London’s O2 Arena Thursday night, an NME magazine source saw that a member of the crowd was shirtless under his jacket. To me, at a rock concert, this would not send any red flags, but to this source, it did (don’t ask me why). Anyway, when 18-year-old James Revell was asked why, he said he was told to take his shirt off because nobody, and I mean nobody, was allowed in wearing a Slash t-shirt.
This “source” then talked to security about all of this and this is what they had to say: “We were told by the management not to allow anyone into the O2 Arena who is wearing a Slash T-shirt and we are asking anyone who is to remove it and if they refuse they will be turned away.”
What about GNR fans in the back that you can’t see wearing a Slash shirt, you ask? Well to that, security answered, “This is what we were told.” Plain and simple.
Talking about the incident, Revell said, “I felt very angry because I was looking after my little brother at the time and felt as though my freedom to wear what I want had been taken away from me, however I did not react angrily as I didn’t want to spoil the show for him.”
Revealing why he thought the band (Axl?) decided to make the Slash ban, he said, “I believe they asked me to do this because Axl Rose has some problem with Slash and if he saw me wearing the shirt he might have stormed off stage.”
The die-hard fan says he wasn’t only bummed about this particular experience, but also about the fact that the band was so late (yet again – in a week’s period mind you) to the stage, that he was only able to see three songs of their set. Regarding this mess he said, “I have never experienced anything as insulting as that at a concert before and I had to sit there in my little brothers jumper and wait for Axl to turn up well over an hour late, which we could only stay to watch 3 songs as we had to catch a train back. I think that Axl Rose doesn’t appreciate his fans or anyone for that matter, he needs to grow up and stop acting like a child.”
What the?! I love me some GNR, but is this really how they (Axl) is behaving these days?! Sure, Guns ‘N Roses wouldn’t be here today without Axl Rose, but they sure as hell wouldn’t be here without Slash!
