Amber Portwood Thinks Jail Will Save Her From Addiction

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood jail prison mug shot mugshot 2012

Teen Mom star Amber Portwood‘s drug addiction was so bad that she was actually eager to begin her 5-year jail sentence.

The reality star, who was sentenced to 5-years in prison for drug charges in January, was given a second chance by a lenient judge who allowed her to complete rehab treatment rather than do hard time. But Amber found that her addiction was stronger than rehab and she turned herself in a couple of weeks ago, telling the judge she would rather do jail time because it would actually force her to quit drugs. The judge obliged and reimposed her sentence of 5-years.

Sure enough, her first drug test came up dirty, testing positive for Suboxone, a Morphine-like drug.

With time already served (between the time she turned herself in and the time she was sentenced), plus good behavior, Amber, 22, could be out of jail in less than two-and-a-half years. A small sacrifice to make if it helps her kick drugs. Her daughter is 3-years-old now and will almost be starting school by the time Amber gets out and the media will most likely have forgotten who Amber Portwood is (we’re fickle like that). This truly could be a second chance for her to make a good life for her and her daughter – or it is just going to make things worse. Remember, there are always drugs in correctional facilities…
