Katy Perry To Portray Freddie Mercury’s Girlfriend In New Movie?

Katy Perry is adding actress to her resume, whether it will have “good” or “convincing” in front of that title we have yet to determine.

Not only is her 3D autobiographical flick Katy Perry: Part Of Me coming to a theatre near you soon, but also it’s rumored that she will be playing the girlfriend of Queen’s late frontman Freddie Mercury in a new movie about his life. Apparently Sacha Baron Cohen will be playing Mercury, and he’s already been working with Queen’s band members Brian May and Roger Taylor on the film.

According to NME, upon hearing about the movie, Perry showed interest in portraying Mercury’s girlfriend Mary Austin (the two dated from 1974-1980). A source close to the star said, “Katy would love to be in the film as she is such a huge fan. She would want to play Mary Austin ideally. Katy has a similar look to Mary and would be a brilliant foil to Sacha.”

Even after Austin and Mercury broke up, the two are said to have remained very close. Mercury frequently said that Austin was the love of his life. Austin was also one of the first people Mercury told about his HIV diagnosis, which eventually took his life in 1991 (he passed away from AIDS-related pneumonia).

I haven’t seen Perry acting much but from what I have seen (in her music videos), it’s not too pretty. I guess we’ll see, but she might wanna stick to her day job. I am looking forward to hearing this “dark” album she has in the works. Could make things interesting!
