‘Rock of Ages’ Bombs Opening Weekend

Rock of Ages bombs at box office opening weekend 2012

This news may or not be a shocker, but Rock of Ages flopped big-time at the box office on its opening weekend.

The big screen adaptation of the 80’s Broadway rock ‘n roll musical debuted Friday to a paltry $15.1 million. This on a film that had a $75 million budget. Sadly, it seems neither Julianne Hough’s stripping skills, nor the much-anticipated soundtrack could lure moviegoers.

The animated flick Madagascar 3, which features the voices of funnymen Ben Stiller and Chris Rock, took in $35.5 million this Father’s Day weekend, and beat out both Rock of Ages and Adam Sandler’s That’s My Boy (which took in $13 million) combined.

Prometheus, starring the beautiful Charlize Theron, netted $20.2 million for its second week on the big screen. Theron’s other film, Snow White and the Huntsmen, which also stars Kristen Stewart, came in with $13.8 million.

I am still looking forward to seeing the cheese-tastic Rock of Ages movie, but taking the advice of a friend of mine who saw it this weekend, I’ll wait til it comes out on blu-ray.

Rock of Ages is a fun movie to go see if you love the music!  If you liked the musical, you will like the movie.  It’s an homage to  the era.  It just shows the kind of things that are successful these days -  sell out spectacular – Madagascar 3.  I’d go back and see Rock of Ages again, but I couldn’t be paid to see Magic Mike or Madagascar 3.  I would rather get a root canal.
