Five Facts You Might Not Have Known About ‘Magic Mike’

Five facts about 'Magic Mke' 2012

Magic Mike finally hit theaters today (Friday), and as you know, there’s been a lot of buzz surrounding the movie and its stars.

Promotional images that have been released of hunks Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, Matthew Bomer, and Alex Pettyfer have gotten giddy audiences into a tizzy.

Yahoo! Movies had a fun little list of five facts you might not know about the movie and the actors involved. I’ve paraphrased them a bit and you can see them below.

Channing Tatum’s family supported him taking the job as a stripper.

As you know, Tatum was a stripper before he made it big, but what you might have not known is his family was cool with it. Apparently his sister and six of her friends visited him one night while he was working. Not only did they sit front row, but also they had to endure seeing him taking it off while wearing a Boy Scout outfit and singing “Camp Granada”. His sister was so embarrassed she had to look away for most of it.

Matthew McConaughey chose to strip for the role.

In the original script, McConaughey’s character Dallas, didn’t strip, but when director Steven Soderbergh brought up the idea to the 42-year-old actor, he was all for it. Says McConaughey, “Soderbergh said in the beginning that if it felt right, I could strip at the end of the movie. I said, ‘I gotta dance, man.’” Ha! He’s rad.

None of the film’s actors used body or stunt doubles.

It’s rare in Hollywood that an actor/actress chooses to show their own skin in every frame of a movie, when they can have a model do it for them, but the boys of Magic Mike were proud of their assets. Said Tatum, “There wasn’t one stunt butt or stunt dancer for any of the dancers.” McConaughey added, “No way — that’s all me up there, I don’t need a stunt ass.” Confidence is everything. Good for them!

The movie’s extras kept coming back for more.

This is funny stuff. Soderbergh said that the film had a very high percentage of returning extras. “These women were very happy. We had a lot of return extras — like 96%, which is unheard of on a movie,” he said. One extra got a little too frisky and pulled a tad too hard on McConaughey’s thong, which ended up causing a wardrobe malfunction. Horny women!

Chris Rock gave Joe Manganiello advice about some concerns he was having.

At first, Manganiello wasn’t sure if he wanted to take the role of Big Dick Richie because he was worried men around the world would hate him for always showing his six-pack (he admits he already has his shirt off much of the time in his True Blood role). Rock, who is Manganiello’s co-star in What to Expect When You’re Expecting gave him some sound advice, saying, “Guys are going to hate your guts anyway. Brad Pitt spent 15 years with his shirt off. He’s doing fine.” So true! Ha!

I’m excited to see how well this movie does at the box office. The cast couldn’t be a better group of guys. I bet it was fun as hell to make this flick!
