Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes Divorce Might Get Ugly

It was a bit shocking to hear on Friday that Hollywood power couple Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were getting a divorce, but it’s starting to sink in.

It seems like one of those things that you didn’t quite expect, at least ‘right now’, but looking back on photos of the family, together and separate, and the stories that went along with them, it all makes sense.

In the last month, Cruise and Holmes were hardly ever together, and according to Radar, Katie even secretly rented an apartment in Manhattan to move into with daughter Suri once she dropped the divorce bomb.

Also, since she filed the papers in New York, (which many believe New York courts would be more apt to grant her full custody than California courts) she would have to meet certain criteria in able to have the divorce proceedings held there. One being, that she lived there, though according to Tom’s legal team, she doesn’t meet that requirement.

With that, Cruise reportedly is going to file his own divorce papers in California, and according to a source close to the situation, “will file a response in New York, asking that the divorce proceedings be halted in the Big Apple because California is the proper venue for the matter to proceed. Team Cruise is going to assert that Katie doesn’t meet the residency requirements to file in New York, and that both live full time in California, specifically Los Angeles.”

Yikes, there’s no question about it, this will get ugly. Aside from all of the normal drama that comes along with getting a divorce, Holmes has the rabid Scientology cult backing up her soon-to-be ex. Keep strong Katie!
