It seems a little weird to make a movie about a musical legend like Jimi Hendrix, and not be able to feature any of his original songs or covers, but that’s what is going to happen with All Is By My Side, because unfortunately, the producers never scored the rights to Hendrix’s music.
Lucky for them, they’ve not only got someone who looks the part to play the late Hendrix, but he’s also a talented musician who could make some great covers…that’s André 3000.
According to FUSE, the OutKast singer will record covers of tracks by the Beatles (“Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band”), Elvis Presley (“Hound Dog”), Muddy Waters (“Mannish Boy”), and other songs Hendrix was known to cover.
It’s unfortunate this film has been denied the right to use Hendrix’s original music, but I think André 3000 will churn out some pretty sweet tracks of his own.
