It’s been a couple years since we’ve heard new Deftones material, but the band is set to release their new album in October, and have promised to bring it with this one.
Singer Chino Moreno spoke to Billboard about the venture. When asked about the new music, he said, “It’s not a super fast or slow record. It’s very dynamic. Some of my favorite things about Deftones are the dynamics. Yes, we’re a heavy band, but we’re not just in-your-face aggro the whole time, punching you in the face. There’s a lot of aggression in some of the music, but there’s also this very soothing element where there’s a lot of soundscapes rather than attack, attack, attack the whole time.”
“I understand that’s a big part of our sound, but I really feel like we reached a peak on our dynamics on this record with those two qualities, the beauty of something and just straight, ruthless aggression,” he continued.
The band will kickoff their North American tour with System Of A Down next month. If you haven’t seen them live, you should. They’re a sweet treat!
Chi Cheng Update:
The last we heard about bassist Chi Cheng and his recovery, he was making some good progress, and was slowly but surely coming out of the coma he was left in since the horrible 2008 car crash he was in.
According to his website, Chi has been dealing with a series of blood infections while in the hospital. He’d be treated for one, then sadly, get another. Doctors are looking to send him home where he’ll be able to treat the infection with antibiotics, as well as better control the germs in his environment. Cross your fingers he gets better soon. We need you healthy Chi!
